What species do you carry at your warehouse?
We carry a wide variety of hardwood species including, but not limited to:
Red Oak, White Oak, Maple, Cherry, Black Walnut, Honey Locust, Black Locust, Catalpa, Siberian Elm, American Elm, Tree of Heaven, Sycamore, Beech, Basswood, Ash.
From time to time we also carry a limited selection of softwoods such as Pine, Spruce and Cottonwood.
It is important to note that we only carry species that grow locally, as we do not bring in lumber from outside of our work area.
Do you have reclaimed flooring or barnwood?
Our speciality is creating material directly from the log. If you’re looking for old barnwood or reclaimed flooring we would recommend checking out our friends at Woodward Throwbacks for this type of material.
Woodward Throwbacks is located at:
11500 Joseph Campau in Hamtramck, MI
Do you remove trees?
Live Edge Detroit does not actually perform tree removals services. We work on a log donation basis and our process starts with trees that are already down, in log form. If you are interested in donating your log, or having something made from a piece of your own wood, we would be happy to discuss next steps with you. Please note, there is a fee associated with log pick-up if you are not able to have the log dropped off at Live Edge Detroit. Please contact us for more information.
Do you ever purchase logs or lumber?
We do not. Please see above. It is our mission to salvage only down trees that would otherwise see the dump, become firewood or be turned into mulch. Live Edge Detroit does not pay for logs or lumber. We also never promote the removal of trees to produce slabs or finished products. That would be against our mission.
Do you take log donations?
Every once in a while, we will come across a local resident or community group that is interested in donating a down log to Live Edge Detroit. If you have read the above, understanding completely that there is no financial compensation for the log you wish to donate then the next step would be to contact us via email at email@example.com. Please send the following for us to know whether it's possible to move forward:
Number of logs
Size of logs (in diameter & length)
Address of where the log(s) currently reside
If you are able to drop off or if you need to discuss pickup
Photos, if possible
Please note: not all logs are salvageable. If the tree was damaged or diseased it may not be sound enough for us to utilize. Once we have the above information, we will take your donation into consideration and get back to you as soon as we can.
This is one of our most common questions – and comes with a lot of variables. We have wood of all sizes, species and figuring in our warehouse, and because each piece is so unique, we are unable to provide pricing over the phone or email. The best way to shop is to visit our warehouse to see what is currently in stock.
How can I shop your slabs?
Come visit the warehouse to see what we currently have in stock!
If I were to purchase a slab, will you finish it for me?
We are currently offering some finishing services. When you come to see us at the warehouse we can determine if this is something we can handle in-house. If it is beyond our scope of work, we have a variety of local partners we can recommend you to for finishing work.
Do you ship?
We do! Shipping within the 48 Continental US states is available and will be handled on a case by case basis. Contacts us to discuss in more detail.
